N.I.G.H.T. (Take 2)

Postby Kiraya_TiDrekan » Sat Jan 16, 2010 11:47 am

Ninja International Ghost Hunting Team!

Now recruiting!

An elite squad of special agents and martial artists from around the world, N.I.G.H.T. tracks down and eliminates supernatural threats to freedom and security around the globe.

Inspired by Ghostbusters, G.I. Joe, and a light dose of anime style zaniness, N.I.G.H.T. is a mostly light hearted game of supernatural action and intrigue.

N.I.G.H.T. uses Palladium Books' Ninjas & Superspies RPG, but you don't need to have access to the book to play. I can make a character for you, or you can take as much or as little control over the character creation process as you like. The basics appear below.

Character Creation Basics

Attributes

Roll 3d6 for each attribute listed below, rerolling 1s. If you want to let the dice decide your fate, then roll in order. If you'd like more control over your destiny then roll 8 times and place the scores as you see fit. Keep in mind that P.S., P.E., P.P., and Spd are likely to increase via skill selection.

If you roll a 16, 17, or 18, roll another d6 and add it to that score. If that roll comes up 6, roll another d6 and add it to the score. Stop there, however. Attributes "max out" at 30.

If more than four of your attributes are single digits, reroll the whole set.

Intelligence Quotient (I.Q.)
Mental Endurance (M.E.)
Mental Affinity (M.A.)
Physical Strength (P.S.)
Physical Prowess (P.P.)
Physical Endurance (P.E.)
Physical Beauty (P.B.)
Speed (Spd)

Occupational Character Class (O.C.C.)

Only basic descriptions are given here. After you make your choice, I'll provide more of the numbers and crunch and such.

Choose from one of the following:

Dedicated Martial Artist - A character who has spent their entire life in training, seeing very little of the outside world. However, they are able to select two martial arts styles and are the only class able to select "Exclusive" martial arts styles.

Worldy Martial Artist - This is the martial artist who has seen the world, either because they were supposed to lead a dedicated existence but snuck out to experience life, or because they learned their martial skills in a more worldy environment, such as an urban dojo, as part of the MMA circuit, or aspiring to be the next Jackie Chan or Jet Li.

Cyber Agent - An espionage agent who has been upgraded with various cybernetic enhancements.

Wired Agent - An espionage agent who has a few cyber enhancements, but not as many as the cyber agent, and thus has a few more skills and martial arts prowess than the cyber agent.

Gadgeteer Agent - An espionage agent who has a fondness for technology, gadgets, and toys.

Operative Agent - An espionage agent who focuses on skills and training, a jack of all trades and master of several.

Private Eye - A free agent who specializes in investigation and has their own agency to operate from.

Professional Free Agent - A free agent who values their independence and freedom, operating as a loner and mercenary.

Wandering Free Agent - A free agent who never stays in place for very long and picks up a variety of skills along the way.

Thief - A free agent who is an ex-con and (mostly) reformed, now putting their skills to use for the good guys.

Dreamer Gizmoteer - An inventor and tech specialist who is full of big ideas in a variety of subjects, but doesn't quite have the focus to specialize in any one area.

Gizoid Gizmoteer - An inventor and tech specialist who specializes in cybernetic enhancements and upgrades and is skilled enough to replace their own enhancements with the proper resources.

Tinker Gizmoteer - An inventor and tech specialist focused on their skills with a true dedication to their craft, often having a doctorate or three in their chosen fields.

Academy Officer - A mercenary character who spent time in the military as an officer.

Commando Mercencary - A mercenary character with special forces training and a martial arts background.

Cyborg Soldier - A mercenary character with cybernetic enhancements and upgrades.

Veteran Grunt - A mercenary character with a military background and experience in combat situations.

Martial Arts Styles

I'm not going to go in to much detail with these as there are 41 different styles. Most of the character classes get to choose one of these. I'll provide a list of which ones are available to your class once you've chosen a class. Worldly Martial Artists have access to the entire list except Exclusive. Dedicated Martial Artists get to choose two and can choose Exclusive styles (though those must be primary). "Agent" styles are quick and dirty styles taught in American self-defense classes and/or various agencies and militaries and lack the finesse, "style," and focus of the true martial arts.

Basic Hand to Hand (Agent)
Expert Hand to Hand (Agent)
Martial Arts Hand to Hand (Agent)
Assassin Hand to Hand (Agent)

Alignment

Honor is something of a secondary aspect of alignment. Not all principled characters are honorable, but those who practice certain martial arts styles are. I'll go over the specifics when you pick a class and martial style. The honor notations in parentheses are the usual paths those alignments take. A usually non-honorable alignment character can be honorable, but will find it difficult to maintain their honor, for example.

Principled (Good) (Honorable)
Scrupulous (Good) (Non-Honorable)
Unprincipled (Selfish) (Honorable)
Anarchist (Selfish) (Non-Honorable)
Miscreant (Evil) (Dishonorable)
Aberrant (Evil) (Honorable)
Diabolic (Evil) (Dishonorable)

Other Stuff

Based on what you choose from the above information, I'll fill in the rest to save time. If you have access to the book, feel free to create your full character.

Stylistic Influences

While there will certainly be an element of humor attached to this game, there will also be some fairly in-depth storylines as well. The following media are sources of inspiration:

G.I. Joe - The original animated series.

Ghostbusters - The movie and the first season of the animated "The Real Ghostbusters" based on the movie.

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer

Big Trouble in Little China

Men in Black

Charlie's Angels - The movie and the movie sequel "Full Throttle."

Lethal Weapon - And its three sequels.

I'll need to dive in to the book and have a thorough look at your characters, but I'm going to see if anyone else wants to join in.

Do you mind if I reformat your characters a bit?

I'd also like a bit of background. Where the character's from, what their childhood and training was like, how they came to the attention of N.I.G.H.T. and any other details you'd like to provide (family members, old friends, teachers, enemies, etc).

Is MacKenzie a Worldly Martial Artist?

And at what level did you create these characters?

Alrighty. I'll try to kickstart this and get everything put together either today or Monday.

In the meantime, still need those backgrounds...they don't need to be incredibly detailed, but they can be a little fantastical, if you like (orphaned and raised in the wild by gorillas or wolves or something; identical twin who is your sworn enemy; etc).

Minato Shoo

Born and raised in a Korean Arcology, Shoo was raised by his parents.

His parents Venessa (american physician) and Shikamaru (Japanese expert in biological/silicon interfaces) both work in the Corporate Tech fields. His parents are both respected and protected by their Corporation (Artech).

He is one of three twins. He has two twin sisters Tamari and Sakura.

For the most part Minato and his sisters were raised by his aunt and uncle (both experts in his chosen martial arts and retired secret agents) while his sisters cared little for training, Minato thrived under their tutelage.

Minato had one great love of his life, Hinata Huyga, she vanished mysteriously one rainy night in Seoul. He spent two years searching for her before giving up in a great depression. He returned to his aunt and uncle to continue his training.

MacKenzie Rain
Mac was raised in an orphanage on an Island in the Caribbean, in reality it was a covert US training base where she was instructed in the martial arts. Shortly after her training was completed the facility was shut down. She has sense spent the last few years traveling around the world.

Hi there and welcome aboard. :D

There isn't a rogue class in Ninjas & Superspies, however. If you don't have the book, that's fine, just give me an idea of the kind of character you want to play and we'll go from there.

I'm down to a manageable number of PbPs and intend to stay there for the time being. The trick is not trying to do more than two, maybe three, game systems at once and right now I have D&D 3.5, Pathfinder, and New World of Darkness going. The (n)WoD thing is a short term, one-shot affair, however, so I'll be starting something new once that concludes. I'll likely put what game I run after that up to a vote, with N.I.G.H.T. as one of the options.
